Basement System Updates And Test
It’s been a long time but I figured I’d ramble on about the obvious new changes.
Also NOTE: The 4010 is still in fully working condition. However, given its age (2002), I wanted to retire and preserve it.
Enjoy!

Old FA-1000 bell test

Ringing the horns (ones that work anyways) on a very old FA-1000 (1998). This is a large empty warehouse that we are troubleshooting many circuits on before we replace the panel. System is mostly MT-24 horns and then there are 757 horns in the very back of the building.

Notifier 3030 2 stage voice Messages

This is a large retrofit/new install job I have been a part of for the past year or so now. Upgrading a 4100 to a notifier 3030. This is the first time I have installed a system with voice, as it is not common to have voice evac in Canada. Figured I’d show it off while testing the stairwells. Also NOTE: 1. I am aware the new ceiling speakers are mounted on the wall. That is how we had to retrof...

Annunciator addition

Happy 2023! (As I say and it’s July). Also apologies for the mess in the basement. We had a serious water leakage back in November that resulted in us ripping apart a section of the basement. Anyways, I have added an annunciator to my basement system! Also thank you Hunter (Canadian Alarms) for helping me install this annunciator when you visited! Enjoy!

Replacing a Pull Station and Horn Strobe
I've seen those standard PA speakers used as voice evac, as there was one in a hotel room once!
nice.
wait you live in toronto??
@@djajawesomeness8796 no but I did a lot of work in Toronto

Wow thats super cool! Thats awesome!
Same annunciator as the one on the 4005
This is a longer comment but I wanted to talk about some differences between Canadian two-stage and American “equivalents”. In the United States, two-stage as used in Canada is not up to our codes. I personally think the way it is implemented in Canada is great and it would be a good tool to add to our box here in the states for many installs, but one of the biggest problems is that pull stations aren’t really installed that much anymore, so I don’t know exactly how it would work. I digress. We have positive alarm sequence (PAS) and pre-signal (not to be confused with pre-alarm). PAS tends to be used on smoke detectors more, but with AHJ approval, it can be used on any device with the exception of water flow. In addition, certain detectors or pull stations can be set to PAS while others aren’t. When a PAS device is activated, an alarm condition will show up on the panel and you have 15 (or in some cases 30) seconds to acknowledge the alarm. If you fail to acknowledge the alarm before the countdown ends, the fire department is notified and the buildings safety measures and emergency plan is activated. If you do acknowledge the alarm in time, there is a 3 minute timeframe to reset the system or else the system will go into a full alarm state. I personally prefer that this setup is only used on smoke detectors because they cause the most nuisance alarms and can be very very easily pinpointed to the location of a fire (or non fire) versus pull stations which require human interaction and a wider search of the area to verify the validity of an alarm. During any stage of a PAS alarm activation, a second device activation will trigger a full alarm. Pre-Signal (PS) is a system that can only be used if a building has trained staff on site 24/7, however it can be used in most occupancies. The key difference between PAS and PS is that human intervention at the control panel is critical for a PS system because there is no mix-matching PS and general alarm devices like in a PAS system. This means that when an alarm goes off, it is most-likely that another alarm will not trigger evacuation. In PS systems, the general alarm is delayed by at least 3 minutes from when the alarm is sounded, however that is very customizable based on the install. In voice systems, this could be used as a standby message, but most times there is no notification initially. The fire department is instantly notified, and there must be a pull station or other appropriate means to sound the general alarm from the panel. Please note that I am being very vague about PS because of how customizable it is. I will note two different installations I’ve seen of it. One is in a high school. When an alarm is activated, the fire department would be notified and all of the buildings fire safety measures (fire doors, fire department dispatch, A/C shutdown, ect.) were activated except for notification. If the school resolved the problem, they could simply reset the system and await the fire department to let them know what happened. The building could be immediately evacuated with a pull station next to the panel. The second install I would like to talk about is at a large arena. When the system is activated, non audible/visual safety measures were activated by zone in the facility and the fire department is notified. The alarms would in fact never sound unless it was done at the panel. This made it crucial for trained staff to know how to use the built in paging system and how to trigger the A/V’s. In conclusion, I think that if we added a two-stage system to our fire code, it would help because of how different PAS and PS are. In most cases, I don’t like PS at all, but I think PAS is easy to implement and can’t really go wrong.
if i wanted a panel to get programmed would I have to have them come over and program it or is there a way a person could just send me a file?
I don't think anyone would want to program a fire panel for you... But yes, if you know someone they can just send you the CFIG file
@@Roxxofoxxo it doesn’t really matter I have my ways of getting things, it was a hypothetical question. Whatever bullshit you are holding on me you need to let tf go, it’s been a long time
4007es takes the head end! I have one of these systems myself. Nice units when you get to know them. People hate on them, but the main issue I see is that they have unusual properties that make working with them different from most other simplex units which leads to a learning curve. A big example of this is firmware upgrades.
@@achannelwithnopurpose1977 I literally can’t upgrade the firmware. Tried multiple times but have to recover it every time
Awesome video. I always like seeing the basement systems. very cool system change.

Great system test video. Can’t wait to see future tests with this panel.

The conference center that my college once owned had such a system in place, with that same annunciator slapped onto an old Simplex 4305/4308 annunciator (the building was initially built in 1978 with some kind of Simplex system). The alarm signals were Space Age VA4 horn/strobes (with many of them mounted on the ceiling), they had System Sensor 2451TH smoke detectors (and a newer 2151T detector near the panel) and Simplex 4251-20 single-action pulls (the only devices from the original Simplex system still in use).
This is awesome!
Do you have ES Programmer

is it possible to see the simplex dual action pull station in canada
@@Editorum they’re not common but I’ve seen them a few times
I saw some a few weeks back. I’ve only seen them in one building though
6:32 you gave me an idea...
its "ms 4 zero 8"
it has 2001 style march time sounds more like an autocall panel like shorter blasts
This gives me enough reasons love integrities
I highly doubt the pull Station needs to be replaced
Give the "noob" a couple of years and he'll have like a thousand Spectralert Advances and BG-12s that he won't wire up.
Hi
Holy mixed system lol
Wow Very cool! Are you replacing the entire system or just the Panel?
Just the panel
Beautiful Lumacell rs in the back of the bell
Another reason why they have ceiling mount speakers on the walls is because when they replaced the system when it had the original speakers, it had some slight extra cutted out drywall due to the way of how these speakers got installed which meant they used the ceiling mount ones to cover up the holes and which meant during the replacement they used the System Sensor SPCWL L-Series speakers. On a normal cutted out wall for a double gang backbox, it doesn't matter if a wall or ceiling speaker goes here as it performs the same exact way which the only exception is that ceiling mount speakers are secondary speakers that are larger than wall ones to cover up slightly extra cutted out drywall that would make the speakers look ugly because there's a hole in the wall right where the wall mount speaker is. And it can't be with speaker strobes because of the differences in the direction of the strobe light output direction except if it's from the SpectrAlert Advance series for a retrofit install then yes as you can switch the wall and ceiling mount models on an opposite place like a ceiling mount on the wall where's in a normal install it's the device that matches the type of mounting and only except if it's a remote horn or speaker just like in the video here because one with a strobe will look goofy.
Golden age simplex equipment setup here. Simplex was full steam ahead when all this was on the market.
You got that right
Wow! That's Super cool!
Very cool man. I remember talking about this with you It's good to see it working.

That is so cool
Thats interesting seeing dot matrix machine on a fire alarm system
It’s pretty common in larger buildings
sweet
how do i put the system in test mode so it doesnt go off during renovations
Use the dipswitches under the bell cct LEDs to bypass the bells. But always call the monitoring company first that monitors the panel to put the system on test with the fire dept
@@CJ9899 yea we self monitor and I called them myself so that parts fine but I would just turn off all dip switches in the first bank with the plastic cover ?
@@iiiuuj the 4 dipswitches under the bell cct LEDs will bypass your bells.
Edward and mircom are nice
